  44. Tsck, Ed; Luck Hurder has at least ONE way to encourage profitable
  45. use of no-code techs: Public Service Awards. I am glad to see that
  46. the PS nets and volunteer efforts, which of course existed before
  47. the no-code was introduced, welcome the use of vhf/uhf operators
  48. whether they got their tech before or after no-code. My oldest son
  49. got a great deal of amateur radio encouragement at the age of 15
  50. when we got him involved with us at public service events. And he
  51. was not the youngest in the net; that honor went to a YL of 14 who
  52. had come up through novice (took her test same time I did as a
  53. matter of fact). Nor was he the only no-coder: that honor went to
  54. the wife of another OM on the net.

  56. We often used 2 meters for the 'local' link of message nets back
  57. in central TX; I suspect thats true in other places. Shouldn't
  58. be too hard to rack up the hours for a very honorable Public Service
  59. Award (see the pages of QST for details :-).

  122. This is true, but the VEC licensing system requires (I think; I don't
  123. have my FCC Rule book in front of me right now) that one way or
  124. another, license applications must be acted on within 90 days. All the
  125. hysterics here about involving various politicians are, IMNSHO, a
  126. little rediculous. Someone said it here before, but I will repeat it
  127. again because it has been the best advice to date:

  129. Wait a bit (maybe until after the Easter Weekend) and then give the
  130. ARRL/VEC a call and explain to them the situation. At the least, they
  131. can tell you when the paperwork went over to the FCC and they will
  132. probably be able to help you find out what the snag is.
